Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Qadiri

Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Qadiri is a physician from the Gaza Strip who has dedicated his career to providing emergency medical care and serving vulnerable communities, even in the midst of war.

Determined to become a doctor, he traveled to Sudan in 2012 to study medicine at Al-Zaiem Al-Azhari University, graduating in 2017. After returning to Gaza in 2019, he volunteered in emergency departments before joining the Ministry of Health in 2021.

Before the war, Dr. Al-Qadiri had been preparing to specialize in Germany. He invested years in learning the German language and completing the necessary requirements to continue his medical training abroad. Those plans came to an abrupt end with the outbreak of the conflict in 2023.

Since then, he has worked tirelessly on the front lines, often covering continuous 24-hour shifts in overcrowded emergency departments while treating critically injured patients under extremely challenging conditions. Like many healthcare professionals in Gaza, he has continued serving despite the immense personal and professional hardships caused by the war.

His home was destroyed early in the conflict, forcing him to seek shelter in a tent in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Today, he is the sole provider for his mother, his sister, and his brother’s family, including three young children.

Alongside his paid clinical work, Dr. Al-Qadiri volunteers at Hayat Medical Center, a community-based initiative established by local healthcare professionals to provide essential medical care for displaced families with little or no access to primary healthcare. The center operates entirely through voluntary efforts, reflecting his deep commitment to serving those most in need.

Despite the challenges he faces, Dr. Al-Qadiri remains dedicated to his patients and continues to pursue his mission of providing compassionate, accessible healthcare while hoping to one day resume his specialist training and further contribute to the future of healthcare in Gaza.
