Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Tayeb

Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Tayeb’s journey into medicine began with a childhood dream. His mother affectionately called him “my little doctor,” yet after finishing high school, his passion for physics led him to begin university studies in that field.

Everything changed when his father was diagnosed with leukemia. Watching his father struggle to access the treatment he needed, particularly radiotherapy that was unavailable in Gaza, profoundly changed the course of his life. Like many patients from Gaza, his father was unable to obtain permission to travel for medical care. After his father’s passing, Dr. Al-Tayeb made a life-changing decision: he left physics behind and dedicated himself to studying medicine, determined to become the kind of physician who could ease the suffering of others.

During his second year of medical school, tragedy struck again. His mother was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease that required specialized treatment outside Gaza. Once again, the family sought permission to travel, and once again, they were unable to obtain it. Faced with the possibility of losing his mother as he had lost his father, Dr. Al-Tayeb immersed himself in his medical studies, driven by the hope that knowledge might one day help relieve her suffering.

After years of perseverance, he graduated from medical school. Sharing this achievement with his mother was one of the proudest moments of his life. They had planned to celebrate his graduation together just days later, fulfilling the dream they had shared since his childhood. Tragically, she passed away only two days before the celebration.

These profound personal losses shaped not only Dr. Al-Tayeb’s life, but also his calling as a physician. Today, he practices medicine with deep compassion, believing that every patient deserves dignity, hope, and the best care possible. His greatest aspiration is to be a source of comfort for those who are suffering and to honor the memory of his parents through a lifetime of service to others.
